American Ryder Cup WAGs land in Scotland ahead of golf tournament in matching red, white and blue outfits: But are USA wives and girlfriends on par with European rivals?
It seems the golfing wives and girlfriends are keen to make the Ryder Cup a much classier affair than its football counterpart.
Coleen Rooney, Alex Gerrard, Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole were ridiculed for their hot pants, hair extensions and high-octane glamour when they landed in Baden Baden for the World Cup in 2006 and coined the term 'WAG'.
But there's not a whisper of impropriety surrounding the golf girls. Forget sky-high Louboutins and Hermes Birkin bags, the GWAGs prefer a more pared-down look.
As Team USA landed at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, yesterday to kick off the hotly anticipated golfing tournament, all their wives wore matching cream blazers, dark-blue denim, black riding boots and red scarves.
The American WAGs were all wearing matching outfits consisting of jeans, black riding boots, cream jackets and red scarves to pledge their allegiance to their men.
Leading the pack was Phil Mickelson's wife Amy, who wore her bright blonde hair loose and grinned broadly as she touched down in Scotland.
Perhaps the most long-standing and committed WAG, Amy tied the knot with Phil Mickelson back in 1996 and they have three children, Amanda, Sophia, and Evan, together.
Amy, 40, a former cheerleader for the Phoenix Suns, may look the archetypal bubbly blonde, but she's had a fairly turbulent few years.
In May 2009, Mickelson announced that he would take a leave of absence from professional golf after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. His leave of absence was to be indefinite, pending the outcome of Amy's treatment.
Mickelson missed two tournaments while his wife underwent surgery and treatment. Pro golfers banded together wearing pink as a show of support for Mickelson's family.
When told less than two weeks later that the surgery and ensuing treatment had been successful after doctors caught the cancer at an early stage, Mickelson announced he would return to pro golf and the couple have stood by each other's side ever since.
Amy isn't the only WAG with an athletic background. Angie Watson, wife of Bubba, played for the Canadian basketball team in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and Kandi Harris, Hunter Mahan's wife, was a cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys.
Matt Kuchar's wife Sybi, who has been dating him since school, is also quite the athlete.
The tennis pro mothers the couple's two sons, Cameron and Carson, and the family are big tennis players. The husband and wife often compete in mixed doubles tounaments when their schedule allows including some events on the USTA.
Jim Furyk arrived with his long-term wife Tabitha; the pair married in 2000 and have two children together.
The couple are big on charity work and have their own foundation, The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation, which helps underprivileged families.
Then there's Jordan Spieth's girlfriend, 21-year-old Annie Verret, who has been a loyal girlfriend since their high school days.
Annie, the youngest of the WAGs, is a real intellect and has a business degree at Texas Tech and is also a business ambassador at the Rawls College of Business.
They were joined by Keegan Bradley and his partner Jillian Stacey, carrying an oversized Louis Vuitton bag.

Caroline Harrington, wife of Europe team vice captain Padraig Harrington, met her golfing pro husband thanks to fate.
She was living in Dublin when her father took her to see a junior golf match in which Padraig was playing. The pair got chatting and the rest is history.
They married in 1997 and have two sons together. Both are heavily involved in charity work.
Caroline's cousin, Gerard Byrne, was paralysed for life in a car accident and Padraig, with the help of his sponsors, offered all of the advertising space on his golfing kit for three big tournaments and gave all proceeds to help his wife's cousin.
Laurae Westwood, who trained as a beautician, met husband Lee Westwood through the sister of his former Ryder Cup teammate, Andrew Coltart.
